1. Overview
Unback is an open-source, cross-platform application developed by Víctor Carreras. This policy describes how we handle your information. We believe in privacy by design: we do not collect, store, or sell your personal data, nor do we ever upload your images to external servers.
2. Information Collection & Usage
2.1. Local Processing Only
Unback operates on a strict "Local-First" principle. All image manipulation, background removal, and editing are performed entirely on your device. We store or access:
- Images & Files: The images you select are processed in-memory locally. The app does not save copies of your original or processed images unless you explicitly export them to your device storage.
- Settings: Export quality preferences, theme selections, and user interface configurations.
- API Keys (Optional): If future updates include optional third-party cloud-based background removal features, your personal API keys will be stored locally using the device's secure storage. These keys are never shared with us.
2.2. No Analytics or Telemetry
We do not use Google Analytics, Firebase, Crashlytics, or any other tracking software. However, please note that platform providers (Apple App Store, Google Play Store, Microsoft Store, or Snapcraft) may collect anonymous aggregate data regarding installations and app crashes according to their own privacy policies.
3. Third-Party Services
Unback processes everything locally on your device by default. If any optional AI cloud-based feature or external service is implemented in the future, it will be disabled by default, and your device will connect directly to those respective APIs without passing data through our own servers.
4. Device Permissions
To function correctly across mobile and desktop platforms, the app may request the following permissions:
- Photo Library / Storage (Read): Required to select the images you want to remove the background from.
- Storage (Write): Required to save and export the processed images with transparent or new backgrounds to your device.
- Camera (Optional): Required only if you choose to take a photo directly within the app to edit it.
5. Data Security
- Local Runtime: Because your images never leave your device during processing, your visual data is protected from network-based interception or server-side data leaks.
- Offline Capability: The app functions completely offline, ensuring your editing workflow remains secure and private.
6. Children’s Privacy
We do not knowingly collect personal identifiable information from children. Because the app does not require an account, does not use internet connections for core functionality, and collects no data, it is completely safe for use by all ages.
7. Open Source License
This project is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPL-3.0). This ensures full transparency and allows you to audit the source code to verify our privacy and security claims.
8. User Rights & Data Control
Since we do not hold, collect, or back up your data, you maintain absolute control on your device:
- Data Erasure: Uninstalling the app immediately deletes any temporary configurations or cached assets from your system. Your original and exported photos remain unaffected in your device's native galleries.
